“Just as love is a verb, so is faith.”
What is faith?
Sometimes when you are looking for strength in what appears to be a hopeless situation, you need to turn to strategies and, most importantly, people who make the difference for you. You also need to believe in yourself.
In other words, you need faith…
Faith relies on your ability to go forward blindly while believing it will get you where you need to go. Faith is believing in something you cannot see, yet you know it exists.
For example, on a long drive the other day, I had to rely solely on Google Maps, as do many people. My son had fallen asleep and I started to drive, following the route I was given.
About two hours into the trip, I realized I was not driving on roads I was familiar with and when I became aware of that, a sense of panic set in. I felt that I needed to find my way back through familiar towns and roadways because that is what I am comfortable with and Google Maps was taking me somewhere I had never been before.
My son woke up and pointed out how much further we would need to drive to get back to those “familiar” roads and so, I gave up and tried to let go of my fear. Not immediately but eventually I reminded myself that sometimes you just need to have faith and trust that it will all work out in the end.
Ironically, there were severe thunderstorms and gusty winds that were taking place right at the time we would have been driving on those “familiar” roads and, luckily for us, we were going a different direction and for the most part, missed them completely. And, most importantly, we did make it home, safe and sound.
I am sure that the lesson I learned that day will need to be repeated for me in the future. Letting go and completely allowing myself to trust that there is a plan, that there will be paths other than the one I am used to and that I will make it through and get to my destination…even when it doesn’t seem possible…
It is said that faith is taking the first step, even when you don’t see the whole staircase.
Here’s to hoping that I can rely on my faith more and more each day…

Mind/Body Connections…
This program contains a series of positive affirmations created and narrated by Louise Hay. In this first part Louise discusses the causes of illness; why we create disease; and how to change false beliefs into positive, loving ones.
Children’s Corner
Back in 1999, when I was an elementary school librarian, I started a project where I wrote letters (old fashioned, printed letters) to a variety of famous people. This was prior to the daily use of email and text messages. My questions were simple…
1) From your own life experiences, how has reading affected your life in a positive manner?
2) Was there any particular person or experience in your life that made you aware of the value of literature and the importance of reading?
I am going to share these letters and let you experience the joy many of my students (and myself) have gotten from their touching words - Here is this week’s:
Music Moments
Music inspires me in many ways. Here’s a song that I absolutely love from Josh Groban…Enjoy!
