On Monday night I had a beautiful dream. Have you ever had a dream that made you feel so good inside that when you woke up, you were sad that it really didn’t happen?
In this dream I saw many people. Some were from my past and others were from the present. Some were family members while others were friends. We were all in a large room and it was filled with the sounds of laughter and joy.
I was moving around the room, from one person to another. I know that we were talking but I can’t recall the specific conversations. The one thing everyone had in common was the feeling that they left with me.
I felt unconditional love. I know that the phrase may seem cliche but I am thinking that you know the feeling I am talking about. The kind of love that doesn’t come with a set of rules or a time frame. The kind of love that is there for you in your darkest hour, in your time of need…when your life changes in a second.
That's what I felt as I moved around the room, while each person hugged me, each in their own, unique way.
But not the fluffy, light “pat on the back” hug or the “I hardly know you and don’t want to touch you” hug…Instead it was the tight, squeezy, full frontal “I will love you forever no matter what” kind of hug.
I know that dreams are a reflection of your subconscious thoughts. There were people in my dream that are now my guardian angels. There were also people in my dream who are still here with me, continuing to support me, each and every day.
I also know that this world needs more hugs. Just look around us. The news is so bleak…there is so much violence and chaos and yet…
Mercy, compassion, and love are still here…we just need to see it and embrace it, every chance we get…
The saying goes that a physician once said, “The best medicine for humans is love.” Someone asked, “What if it doesn’t work?” The physician smiled and said, “Increase the dose…”

What I am reading…
This week I needed a reminder from my past of a book I have loved reading aloud to both students and to my son when he was growing up. I was going through some old picture books and reread Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney, illustrated by Anita Jeram. The quote below says it all…
Mind/Body Connections
This week has been a challenging one. I have been using an app called Headspace to help me focus on the positive. This is a video from one of the founders of Headspace and I love his explanation of mindfulness and the process of meditation. It is worth watching:
Children’s Corner
Back in 1999, when I was an elementary school librarian, I started a project where I wrote letters (old fashioned, printed letters) to a variety of famous people. This was prior to the daily use of email and text messages. My questions were simple…
1) From your own life experiences, how has reading affected your life in a positive manner?
2) Was there any particular person or experience in your life that made you aware of the value of literature and the importance of reading?
I am going to share these letters and let you experience the joy many of my students (and myself) have gotten from their touching words - Here is this week’s:
Music Moments
Music inspires me in many ways. Here’s a song that I absolutely love… Michael Buble’s Everything…Enjoy!
